As the UK government debates whether or not to legalize same-sex marriage this month, Ben & Jerry’s UK has renamed its ‘Oh My! Apple Pie’ ice cream to ‘Apple-y Ever After’ in partnership with gay rights organization Stonewall.
This move is to raise awareness and show the company’s support of legalizing gay marriage, “because everyone is equal and deserves to live Apple-y Ever After!” Ben & Jerry’s said in a statement.
The company has also redesigned the product’s packaging with a new motif of two grooms on top of a wedding cake.
Ben & Jerry’s previously renamed its ‘Chubby Hubby’ flavor to ‘Hubby Hubby’ in 2009 in its home state of Vermont, to celebrate gay marriage legalization.
Fans can show their support by ‘marrying’ someone of the same sex on the company’s Facebook app and getting a tub of free ice cream.
Remember the grass flip flops that Krispy Kreme made back in 2008? I tried to find out more about what happened to them but with no success. Anyway, a new company called KUSA has decided to make grass flip flops available to the public. What do you think? Would you wear these?
We’ve seen a lot of portable grills, but perhaps none more simple or versatile than the Slat Grill ($110). Able to fit neatly into an included carrying pouch, the grill is made of hard-anodized aluminum and stainless steel, sets up in just minutes, has no moving parts, and thanks to the open design, lets you use any heat source you’d like. Great for camping, tailgating, or hiding away for post-apocalyptic use.
The Philippe-Starck-designed ZIK headphones, due out sometime this year, have classic Starck styling and some innovative interface features: Volume control and track advancement are achieved by finger-swiping the smooth surface covering your right ear, and if you’ve got an NFC (Near Field Communication) enabled smartphone, you simply tap it against the headphones to transfer audio files. Pulling the headphones off automatically kills the music, though it’s not clear if you must remove the headphones every time you want to pause.
JMC Soundboard
Designed by master guitar-builder Jeanmichel Capt with the exceptional creativity and skill he employs to sculpt musical instruments, the JMC Soundboard creates a beautifully encased sound system that blends seamlessly into most any environment. Built with time-honored techniques used in making JMC guitars, the speaker blurs the line between art object and home audio system. The Soundboard has been around for some time now, but we only recently got to experience it in person—between the uncannily thin silhouette and masterful uniformity of sound, it certainly struck a chord.
Let’s say you don’t need a magnifying glass to aid poor vision. Instead you’ll use it to inspect small insects, fine fabrics, and secret messages written in tiny print. Also, not that you need fashion advice, but this is a much better choice than wearing a monocle.
